- The nest guarding and supplementary feeding of Egyptian vultures for 2013 has started
Our collaborators and local caretakers already started the nest guarding of 13 pairs which have been identified as more vulnerable to human disturbance. The negative effects of human disturbance on Egyptian vultures could result in failure of their breeding season. Additionally, 12 out of these pairs are provided regularly with supplementary feeding. The artificial feeding is a good way to supply Egyptian vultures with clean and quality food what is important part from the successful raise of the new generation. As the wooden platforms for supplementary feeding built in 2012 was not effective, we experimented with a new type of platform in Eastern Rhodopes. The feeding platforms aim to impede ground predators to profit from the vulture’s food.
The „Return of the Neophron“ team is grateful to all conservationists for their passion at work and especially to the local people who are looking after these magnificent birds and thus supporting the nature conservation in Bulgaria.
