Since 2006 every second weekend of May, people devote two days to the conservation of the migratory birds and their habitats. Last year our team held an event on this occasion in the project area "Studen kladenec”, where the participants symbolically build totems of Egyptian vultures. This year we took 30 students from the Plovdiv University "Paisii Hilendarski" to a one-day-practice in The Conservation and Information centre "Eastern Rhodopes", Madzharovo. The students had the opportunity to learn about the Egyptian vulture and other migratory birds, which are on the verge of extinction. The theoretical lessons from the information centre developed into a practical exercise in the nearby protected areas, where our future colleagues observed rare species of animals and plants, as well as riparian, rock, and forest habitats.

In the week before the celebration of the World Migratory Bird Days we had three presentations in schools in Haskovo. The attention of nearly 60 children and their teachers was focused on the threats to migratory birds and the efforts to protect them and their habitats.

What truly delighted us is the desire of school and university teachers to acquaint students with the unique nature of the Eastern Rhodopes, and may be some of the questions in the synopses will be on this topic.
