- "The Return of the Neophron" is looking for volunteers for nest guarding
For third year we will guard 10 nests of Egyptian vultures in Bulgaria within the project LIFE + "The Return of the Neophron". The period before the first flight of the inexperienced juveniles is critical as they may fall out of the nest and die. In order to protect them, we recruit volunteers for the Eastern Rhodopes to monitor nests during this critical period for the Egyptian vultures. We rely on your support!
Region: Haskovo and Kardzhali region
Period: July 15 to August 15, 2014.
Requirements: Successful candidates must be highly motivated, in a good health, with a keen interest in the field of nature conservation. Applicants should be ready to spend the daylight hours (sometimes in bad weather conditions) in observations and conducting ornithological journal; to follow the methodology and guidelines for behavior and to have good communication skills with local people in rural areas, they must be 18 years and up with driving license. It is desirable that the applicants have a pair of binoculars and a car. Other advantages are a camera, a scope and experience in conservation activities and ornithological knowledge.
Required accessories: Must-have is mobile phone, backpack, clothes and shoes (2 pairs), raincoat, warm clothes. Highly recommended are binoculars, tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag and bird identifier.
The travel and subsistence expenses are covered under the project "The Return of the Neophron". The nights will be spend in a tent or a lodge (if available).
Stay: at least 7 days (in block).
