- The Egyptian vulture at the exhibition of the Educational Park “Bourazani” in Epirus
Two new information panels for the Egyptian Vulture will be exhibited from now on at the Natural History Museum of the Educational Park “Bourazani” in Epirus.
The information panels were especially created for the Museum and include information about the life and habits of the Egyptian Vulture, its migratory routes and occurrence in Greece, the threats it faces, as well as the actions that are implemented in the framework of the LIFE+ Project “The return of the Neophron” to safeguard the last Egyptian Vultures in the Balkans.
The panels were placed in a prominent position at the Museum, showing the importance of the Egyptian Vulture for the biodiversity and the local folklore of Epirus. Albeit being a flag species in Epirus and well loved among the local residents, the Egyptian vulture has suffered a dramatic decrease, so nowadays seeing just one of these majestic birds flying in the skies of the region has become a rare spectacle.
The exhibition of these information panels as well as the distribution of information material about the species marks the start of a fruitful collaboration with the Educational Park “Bourazani” that will continue in the future, aiming to enhance also the LIFE+ project conservation actions.
The Educational Park “Bourazani” lies at the northern part of Epirus, in a strategic site for the birds of Epirus and Albania. The Park welcomes every year visitors from countries all over the world, as well as students from local schools.
